When people think of customizing Windows, they generally don’t think of changing the Start menu button icon. But that’s exactly what we’re going to show you how to do in today’s article.
Windows users have found cool ways to change all sorts of different parts of the operating system, and the Windows 7 Start menu button is no exception to that rule. Here’s how to change the Start button in Windows 7 to something completely different:
Step 2) Extract the main folder for that program (called W7SBC) to a temporary location and run the Windows 7 Start Button Changer .exe application
Step 3) Click the Change Start Button link to look through a variety of new Windows 7 icons
Step 4) Choose the new icon that you like and then click ‘OK’ to apply changes. W7SBC is kind enough to backup explorer.exe before it makes the change, and users can restore the original Start button icon at any point by clicking Restore Original Explorer Backup.
There are only a limited number of Start menu buttons included in the W7SBC program by default. If you’re looking for a wider variety of creative icons from which to choose, then check out this collection available for free download. You should also be able to find other icons at sites like DeviantArt.
However, for most people, that collection of 213 orbs will be more than enough. It includes orbs for the flags of certain countries as well as professional-looking Windows icons.
If you receive any type of error message while using the Windows 7 Start Button Changer, then you should try exiting the program and running it as an administrator. To do that, right click on the program and choose Run as administrator. However, most PC users will find that they can run it without admin access with no problem.
