First 2.5 inch 1TB SSDs to be released later this month

If you haven’t already heard about SSDs, then you’re missing out on one of the easiest ways to speed up your computer. SSDs are basically a faster version of a traditional hard drive. Featuring no moving parts, SSDs can store and access data in a fraction of the time it takes an ordinary hard drive to do the same tasks.

However, one of the big problems with SSDs is that they don’t have the same massive storage capabilities of hard drives. While OCZ has previously released a 3.5 inch SSD that packed a massive 1TB of data storage capabilities, there have been no such cards in the smaller 2.5 inch range. Users were also disappointed by the slower performance of the 3.5 inch SSD.

Well, the SSD market is about to change: OCZ has announced that a new 2.5 inch one terabyte SSD is going to begin shipping later this month.

Of course, the other drawback of using SSDs is that they are rarely cheap. The price for OCZ’s 1TB card is expected to be between $2,500 and $3,000 USD. The card will be released in late May in Japan, with more release dates expected across the United States over the coming months.

If you want to spend more on a hard drive than many people spend on a used vehicle, then this 1TB SSD could be perfect for you. Check out OCZ’s Amazon listing for more information.
