At the Speed Up My PC Free blog, we’ve written plenty of articles about how to solve various Windows 8-related problems. The thing is – many of these ‘problems’ should not be problems at all. They’re minor issues that could easily be solved on any operating system.
For whatever reason, Microsoft has limited customization options for Windows 8 users. And one of the victims of its customization purge was the background image on the Windows 8 Start Screen, which only features a handful of carefully-chosen Microsoft background images.
If you’re like most people, you don’t appreciate having some large software company telling you how your computer should look. And that’s why we’re going to show you how to change the background image of your Windows 8 Start Screen in just a few easy steps:
Step 1) Download this free tool from deviantART
Step 2) Install that program and then open it
Step 3) Instead of seeing the default grid of background images, the deviantART tool will allow you to click the Load Picture button to upload photos of your own.
Step 4) Choose a photo you want to use and then resize that image accordingly
Step 5) Add a ‘Gaussian blur’ (just a regular blur effect) to your picture by tapping the Gaussian Blur button on the bottom of the screen
Step 6) Make sure you click the Run at startup button in order to run the program automatically as your computer starts up
Step 7) Click Apply & Save to…apply that image and save it to your desktop. That’s it! You’re done.
