In outgoing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s farewell memo to his company, he mentioned the importance for unity across the company’s multiple departments. He called his plan One Microsoft and said that a new CEO was required in order to lead the company towards that goal.

Well, it looks like a few of the company’s biggest departments may soon be joining forces to deliver one really good app store. Those three departments are Windows Phone, Windows 8, and Xbox, all of which are rumored to be combining to create a single large app store.

When?

Rumors point towards early 2014/spring 2014 as a potential release date for the app store. That’s also the time when Windows Phone 8.1 is rumored to be launching.

Microsoft will need to do good on its One Microsoft policy if it want any of its products to succeed in a market where other companies are almost ready to number their apps in millions instead of thousands (both Apple and Google’s app stores have over 700,000 apps available to users).
