Typically, the biggest FPS games of the year – like Call of Duty and Battlefield – are released in the fall.
This year, however, some of the best first person shooters are being released in May.
Sure, other people may be geeking out about Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. But some of this year’s biggest shooters are being released over the next 4 weeks. Without further ado, here are the top 4 best first person shooters being released in May 2016.
Scheduled for release on May 3, Battleborn will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Battleborn will likely cater to a different demographic than the typical Call of Duty crowd. The game is similar to Overwatch in that it feels a group of unique heroes who must team together “to protect the universe’s vary last star from a mysterious evil”, according to the game’s official website.
Battleborn was created by the same team that made Borderlands – so you can expect more of the unique, cartoonish-style beautiful graphics you saw in that game.
Doom is launching on May 13th. Although hype for this game has considerably died down after a lackluster multiplayer beta, people are still excited for the first Doom game in years.
Hardcore Doom fans don’t really care about the average response to the multiplayer beta. Because the game features multiplayer and singleplayer components. For many people, Doom was the first shooter they really fell in love with. Will Doom (4) help recapture the magic of the original games? We’ll have to wait until May 13 to find out.
Overwatch is probably the most hotly-anticipated game on this list. Overwatch launches towards the end of May, on May 24th, although the Overwatch betas have been available for so long that a thriving community has already developed around the game.
Overwatch will be released on PC, Xbox One, and PC, and is guaranteed to be one of the biggest FPS releases of the year. Created by Blizzard, the FPS was first unveiled in 2014 and emphasizes cooperative gameplay between different playable heroes – similar to MOBAs like DoTA 2 and LoL.
Made in collaboration between Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver, Homefront: The Revolution will be released on May 17 for PC, Mac OS X, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One. That’s enormous news by itself: we typically don’t see major game releases arrive on Mac OS X or Linux, especially immediately on launch.
The tagline for Homefront is that America Has Fallen. Now, you need to fight to get it back. The game uses CryEngine and is expected to be one of the best-looking games of the year.
